“Uh-huh, Uh-huh, Yo, Yo…”

The Larry Bird Bucket List

About 3 and 1/2 weeks ago I turned 33.  That makes me Larry Bird, according to my Celtics fan of a husband.  Other than that, I feel that being 33 is special.  How often do you get to be a double digit of the same number?  Well, this is only the third time in my LIFE!

So, in honor of being 33 I’ve made a list of 33 things I want to do within my 33rd year of life.  So, it’s the “Larry Bird Bucket List.”

Who will I be when I’m 34, sports fans?  (My hubby read this and told me “Charles Barkley”)

Anywho, in no particular order, here we go:

1.  Take a picture in front of the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign

2.  Do one more triathlon

3.  Buy two fish and name one “Anyang”

4.  Make a quilt for every member of my little family

5.  Stretch

6. Build 3 raised garden beds  raised_beds_cedar_naturals1

7.  Start a compost pile

8.  Ride a Gondola (either in Venice or at the Venetian…I’ll take either one)  gondola-ride

9.  Finish this house!  (a task that has way more than 33 “to do’s” but I will simplify and just ask for the end result)

10.  Make curtains for our bedroom

11. Take a family hike once a month

12.  Learn one song on the guitar

13.  Take a belly dancing class (but only if Evette is teaching it)

14.  Last longer than 15 seconds on a wakeboard

15. Go snowboarding with my husband

16.  Send a message in a bottlemessage-in-bottle

17.  See the Grand Canyon (and hike it with my brothers if they plan on doing that again!)

18.  Become a “Morning Person”

19.  Help my children become “Morning People” and help El Jefe enjoy being a “Morning Person” cause he’s already forced to be one (It’s worth a try)

20.  Take my children to watch the Sunrise from Redrock (that’s after they become morning people)

21.  Send Christmas cards (every year we intend to send them.  Then we forget.  Then we think “Ok, New Year’s Cards.”  Then we think “How about Valentine’s Cards?”  Then we think “Well, if we get around to it, we’ll do 4th of July Cards.”  And it goes on…)

22. Paint Chunk #1’s bedroom

23.  Do more art projects with my Chunks

24.  Write more (I’m using the book “Writing Towards Home” for writing exercises) writing-towards-home

25.  Ride my bike from my house to Red Rock

26.  Do daily scripture study (something resembling daily)

27.  Watch all the Audrey Hepburn movies that I haven’t seen  audrey-hepburn-posters

28.  Hike Mt. Timpanogos to the top with my hubby  (this time I won’t start at midnight)

29.  Close my mouth and listen

30.  Take the Chunks to Disneyland

31.  Have Family Night every week (Chunk #1’s clarification: “do game and movie night!”)

fhe10

32.  Organize all our family pictures (huge, this is huge, and may carry over into the Charles Barkley year)

33. No more store-bought bread

Yep, here I am just slaving away….  homemade-bread

El Jefe asked me why I chose to call this “Larry Bird Bucket List” since a Bucket List is a list of things you want to do before you kick the bucket.  Well, Hello!  These are things I want to do before my Larry Bird year kicks the bucket.  It makes perfect sense.

Disclaimer:  if, perhaps a Chunk #3 comes into the picture, some of these goals on my list are null and void and will carry over to another year.  I’m not saying there IS a Chunk #3, I’m just saying in case.  I also feel the need to write this disclaimer because I know some of my family may read this list and think “But doesn’t she want to have more children? She can’t do some of these while she’s pregnant (i.e. like make bread all the time.  Come on!)”  So no worries family.  No worries.

  2. I’m all over your bucket list, girl, and yes, it makes perfect sense! 😉 A Bosch (bread) mixer just fell into my lap, and, like you, I’ve been meaning to stop with the store bought bread already. I’m going to try, really try, to make homemade wheat bread on a regular basis! Let’s see if it works!

Yeah, if Chunk/fetus #3 comes into the picture I can guarantee that the one about becoming morning people will disappear. I like your bucket list. I should do that in my Larry Bird year. I thought about you on your b-day(since it is the day before mine.)

I just want to say that Larry Bird is awesome, Laura, and it would do you some good to pattern your life after his. Minus the blond porn-star mustache, though.

  8. Best of luck accomplishing all of your bucket list goals. I love it! And I agree with Lauren about the resemblance between Larry B. and Tracy.

You are so funny, Laura. Your blog posts always make me laugh.
I am with you on the thinking about adding another little to our family.
I decided to get a Masters Degree after I went back to teaching, so if we do decide to take on the challenge of going from a parenting man-to-man defense to a zone defense we can do it together, again (and long distance-again!)

    Hey Laura,
I love your writing style. I’m right there with ya on the “Larry Bird” year. You and your husband are very creative at thinking up these things.
